PARIS — A delegation from central Việt Nam's Quảng Ngãi Province met with the French Development Agency (AFD) during a working visit to France on July 8, aiming to deepen cooperation in green finance, renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure and workforce development.

The delegation was led by Nguyễn Hoàng Giang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

They were welcomed by Rémy Rioux, Chief Executive Officer of AFD, along with Anne Roos Weil, Deputy Director for Europe, Central Asia and Asia, and Adrien Fischer, AFD's Country Officer for Việt Nam and Myanmar.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Giang expressed his appreciation for AFD's long-standing support for Quảng Ngãi through official development assistance (ODA) and concessional financing.

He noted that several projects in the province have benefited from AFD funding, including a US$10 million stormwater drainage and flood mitigation project, a US$4 million upgrade of the Thạch Nham irrigation system, and a US$2.5 million project providing teaching equipment for Dung Quất College of Technology.

AFD was also among the first international partners to provide credit to Quảng Ngãi Sugar Joint Stock Company, helping the enterprise expand its operations and contribute to the province's economic growth and budget revenues.

Highlighting Quảng Ngãi's development potential, Giang introduced the province's strategic advantages, including its coastal location on major international shipping routes across the East Sea and the Pacific Ocean, as well as its role as a gateway connecting Việt Nam with Laos and Cambodia through the East–West Economic Corridor.

The province is home to Dung Quất Economic Zone on the eastern coast and Bờ Y International Border Gate Economic Zone in the west, two strategic growth hubs supporting regional connectivity and industrial development.

Quảng Ngãi's economy continued to expand steadily in the first half of 2026, with gross regional domestic product (GRDP) estimated at more than VNĐ74 trillion, up 8.55 per cent year-on-year.

France remains an important trading partner for Quảng Ngãi. The province exports footwear, frozen breaded shrimp, wooden furniture, optical lenses and lens moulds to the French market, while importing machinery, industrial equipment, components and raw materials for steel production.

Chairman Giang said Quảng Ngãi hopes AFD will help local businesses strengthen links with France's innovation and industrial ecosystem, particularly in renewable energy and sustainable industrial development.

He also proposed expanding cooperation in vocational training and high-quality human resource development to meet the growing demand of enterprises operating in the province's economic and industrial zones.

The meeting provided Quảng Ngãi with valuable insights into AFD's development priorities and opened new opportunities for strategic cooperation in green finance, sustainable infrastructure and technical workforce training.

Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyễn Hoàng Giang presented a photograph of the Lý Sơn Special Zone in Quảng Ngãi province to the French Development Agency.

Established in 1941, the French Development Agency is France's public development finance institution.

It provides development financing and technical assistance in more than 110 countries, supporting projects that promote sustainable and inclusive growth.
