Quảng Ngãi urges swift recovery efforts in western communes after natural disasters

Quảng Ngãi - August 19, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Trần Phước Hiền, chaired a meeting to review damages and direct recovery efforts in western communes of Quảng Ngãi following recent natural disasters. The meeting was connected online with affected communes.

Heavy rains, storms, and whirlwinds in July caused significant losses: over 100 houses damaged, 29 hectares of rice and 2.9 hectares of coffee destroyed, more than 35,000 Ngọc Linh ginseng plants affected, and 14 cattle lost.

Infrastructure was also damaged, including six schools, one medical station, several key roads, and the Sa Loong waste treatment facility.

Total damages are estimated at VNĐ 48 billion.

Vice Chairman Hiền expressed his sympathy to affected residents and praised local authorities for their proactive response.

He directed districts to urgently use contingency funds to repair schools before the new academic year, restore healthcare facilities, ensure safe transportation, and support agricultural recovery.

Departments were tasked with reviewing disaster response plans under the two-tier local government model.

The Department of Construction was asked to promptly repair landslide-affected roads and propose long-term solutions to stabilize key transportation routes in the province.
