Quảng Ngãi - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Trần Phước Hiền on August 26 chaired a meeting to review state management of mineral resources and the implementation of the 2024 Law on Geology and Minerals.

The meeting was connected online to all communes, wards, and a special zone in the province.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, there are currently 135 licensed and active mineral mines in the province.

In eastern Quảng Ngãi, there are 74 mines, including 28 stone mines for construction materials (47.2 million m³ of reserves), 7 sand mines (1.7 million m³), 27 soil mines for leveling (10.3 million m³), and 12 designated mining areas serving key projects (13.1 million m³).

In western Quảng Ngãi, there are 61 mines, including stone, sand, soil, clay, Serpentine, and Quartzite mines.

In addition, 37 mining sites have been auctioned and are completing legal procedures for licensing.

Since 2010, a total of 226 mines in the province have been closed, of which 74 have been fully completed.

To prepare for the enforcement of the 2024 Law on Geology and Minerals (effective from July 1, 2025), the province has issued guidance documents and organized training sessions for local authorities.

Reports showed that mineral resource management has improved in recent years, with stricter licensing and planning.

Mining activities have helped provide construction materials for major projects. However, shortcomings remain in supervision and enforcement, requiring stronger efforts.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền emphasized that local authorities must strictly follow legal regulations, ensure transparency, and take full responsibility for illegal mining in their areas.

He requested unlicensed mining sites to have clear protection plans, and for licensed mines to hold public meetings so that local people can monitor activities.

Authorities should also forecast construction needs to ensure adequate supply of materials for both short-term and long-term development.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment was assigned to regularly guide local authorities in mineral management under the 2024 Law, strengthen inspection, and quickly apply monitoring technologies such as cameras and weighing stations.

Together with the Department of Construction, the Department of Agriculture and Environment must stabilize prices of construction materials and ensure supply for key projects such as the Quảng Ngãi – Hoài Nhơn Expressway, Hoàng Sa – Dốc Sỏi Road, Dung Quất – Sa Huỳnh Road (Phase IIb), Dung Quất Refinery expansion, and the North–South high-speed railway.

The Provincial Police will coordinate with local authorities to closely inspect mining and transportation activities, promptly preventing and handling violations.
