Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Tran Phuoc Hien, chaired a meeting to discuss a plan to address coastal erosion in An Phu commune, Quang Ngai City.
Since early February 2025, high tides and large waves have caused significant landslides and erosion at the end of the Pho Truong embankment in Pho An village, An Phu commune.
The erosion has affected approximately 250 meters of coastline, with about 40 meters experiencing severe damage, impacting 18 households and the local infrastructure along the An Phu coast.
In response to this situation, on February 21, 2025, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee issued a decision to declare a natural disaster emergency due to the coastal erosion in Pho An village.
He assigned relevant local departments to propose long-term solutions to combat the erosion.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment assessed that the coastal area in Pho An village is experiencing local landslides, but these are part of a broader trend of coastal erosion in An Phu commune observed in recent times.
It is forecasted that the risk of further landslides will remain high. To effectively address these issues in a sustainable manner, the Department has proposed an investment plan to construct a 250-meter long anti-erosion embankment.
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Hien praised the Quang Ngai City People's Committee for its proactive measures in mitigating the landslide situation and preventing its further escalation.
He emphasized the importance of coordinating with various departments to develop long-term strategies as directed by the Provincial People's Committee.
To resolve the landslide issues and ensure the long-term stability of the community, Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Hien agreed to assign the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board as the investor for the embankment project and set a completion deadline of July 30, 2025.
