On May 21, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Võ Phiên inspected the implementation of two national target programs: Sustainable poverty reduction, and Socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in Minh Long district.

Regarding the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas, from 2021 to 2025, Minh Long district has allocated more than VNĐ 123 billion to solve the shortage of residential land, housing, production land, and domestic water.
The district has developed sustainable agricultural and forestry production, promoting the potential and strengths of regions to produce goods according to the value chain.
Essential infrastructure to serve production and life in ethnic minority and mountainous areas has also been invested.
By the end of April 2025, more than VNĐ 77.8 billion had been disbursed, reaching 63.3 per cent.

For the implementation of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2024, the total number of households in the district was 5,274, with the rate of poor households accounting for 16.78 per cent, and near-poor households accounting for 4.99 per cent.
By the end of 2024, the rate of poor households decreased to 10.8 per cent, and near-poor households to 3.55 per cent, exceeding the set plan.
The number of poor households with jobs was 338 out of 571 households. 100 per cent of poor and near-poor households were supported to participate in health insurance.
100 per cent of officials working on poverty reduction were trained in knowledge about the implementation of poverty reduction work.
About 64 per cent of low-income households and over 89 per cent of households near the poverty line have access to clean water and have hygienic toilets in their houses.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Võ Phiên acknowledged the achieved results of the district in implementing the two National Target Programs on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas, and sustainable poverty reduction.

Phiên also pointed out some shortcomings and limitations that the district needs to overcome in the coming time. Especially, he requested the district to proactively review and transfer capital sources of projects flexibly, avoiding interruption during the period of transferring tasks between district and commune levels.
The PPC’s Vice Chairman urged agencies and units in the district to speed up disbursement work, focus on inspection and supervision, and ensure the effectiveness of the two programs.
