Quảng Ngãi - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Trần Phước Hiền, on August 27, chaired a meeting to review forest management, protection, and development in the first seven months of the year, and to discuss future directions and tasks.
The meeting gathered representatives from provincial departments, agencies, forest management boards of Chư Mom Ray National Park, provincial forestry companies, and the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection, Forest Development and Natural Disaster Prevention.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, after the recent merger, Quảng Ngãi Province has a natural area of more than 1.48 million hectares, of which forest and forestry land accounts for over 1.14 million hectares.
The forested area covers more than 881,000 hectares, bringing the province’s forest coverage rate in 2024 to over 59 per cent.
Thanks to the strong leadership of Party committees, local authorities, agencies, and communities, forest management, protection, and development have been implemented seriously with positive results.
In the first seven months of 2025, the province planted about 11,500 hectares of new forests, reaching 34 per cent of the plan and up more than 1 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.
Timber exploitation reached more than 1.18 million cubic meters, an increase of 1.02 per cent year-on-year.
Forest fire prevention and control efforts were maintained, especially during the peak dry season.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been four forest fires in Đăk Hà, Đăk Rơ Wa and Đình Cương communes and Đức Phổ ward, damaging 3.06 hectares of forest.
Functional forces quickly detected and extinguished the fires, minimizing losses.
Forest law violations remain complicated.
In the first seven months of 2025, 54 cases were detected, with more than 109.6 cubic meters of timber damaged and over 3.8 hectares of forest encroached upon.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền highly appreciated the efforts of departments, localities, and units in implementing forest management, protection, and development tasks.
He requested closer coordination with commune-level authorities, while assigning the Department of Agriculture and Environment to advise the Provincial People’s Committee on specific solutions, especially regarding afforestation services and development orientation linked to establishing forest product processing factories for long-term benefits.
The Vice Chairman affirmed that the province will consider and address the proposals raised by relevant units within its authority to improve the effectiveness of forest management, protection, and development.
