Quang Ngai: opportunity to exploit tourism products from traditional culture

Quang Ngai is rich in cultural identity, a place where many ethnic groups converge and interact. Ethnic minorities in the province’s mountainous areas such as Cadong, Cor, and H're have been preserving and maintaining unique cultural features, from costumes, cuisine, customs, to folk songs and traditional rituals through many generations.

The mountainous region in Quang Ngai province has five heritages including: Truong Ba Temple Festival, the gong art of the Cor ethnic group, the art of decorating the Nêu tree of the Cor people (Tra Bong district), the brocade weaving craft of Teng village (Ba Thanh commune), and the gong performance art of the H're people (Ba To district).

In addition, this region has one special national relic, three national relics, and 25 provincial relics.

The brocade weaving craft of the H're people in Teng village has been formed for a long time and is being preserved and restored. Its brocade products not only create a difference but also affirm the talent, intelligence and creativity of the weavers.

In recent years, many H're girls in Teng village have created brocade costumes with modern designs which are favored by consumers. These products havebrought high economic values to households in the region.

Dinh Xuan Thang - Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department, Ethnic Committee- said traditional festivals of ethnic minorities and natural cultural heritages have special attraction to domestic and foreign tourists.

This is an opportunity to form a traditional festival tour of ethnic minorities, both creating attractiveness for the destination and contributing significantly to building the destination's brand image and meeting the goal of sustainable tourism development of the locality.

Traditional festivals of ethnic minorities

Introducing and promoting traditional festivals in tourism activities helps local people realize the material and spiritual values of festivals, arouse and educate pride in traditional culture, and raise awareness of protecting and preserving festivals.

Local people can have more income to improve their lives, contributing to the development of the local economy through food services, selling brocade products and local specialties.

Quang Ngai province is strengthenning linkages, developing tourism products, connecting tourist routes, especially coastal and delta routes and tourist destinations with tourist destinations in ethnic minority villages.

Preserving and promoting the good cultural and spiritual values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development is a direction in line with the current trend, meeting the need of tourists, Nguyen Tien Dung, director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, said.

In parallel with conservation, it is therefore necessary to continue to innovate mechanisms and policies and promote the highest role of the community, the government, and the coordination of sectors and localities, contributing to the effective implementation of the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period.
