The figures were reported at a conference on August 13 to review the province’s efforts to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods and set priorities for the remaining months of 2026.
The conference was chaired by Trần Phước Hiền, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee and Standing Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 389.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the steering committee’s standing body, the local market, prices and supply of essential goods remained generally stable during the period, with no significant signs of speculation or unreasonable price manipulation.
However, violations continued to take place in increasingly sophisticated forms.
Offenders have increasingly exploited e-commerce platforms and social media to sell counterfeit and substandard products, goods that infringe intellectual property rights, and products of unclear origin.
During the seven-month period, authorities inspected and identified 795 cases involving 860 violators.
Administrative penalties were imposed in 748 cases involving 793 people, while 32 cases involving 52 people were prosecuted criminally.
Another 15 cases remain under investigation. The total value of violating goods was estimated at more than VNĐ57 billion.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trần Phước Hiền speaks at the conference
Concluding the conference, Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền praised the efforts of the Provincial Steering Committee 389 and relevant agencies, while calling for stronger market inspections and stricter action against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations.
He instructed authorities to focus on high-risk commodities and sectors, including drugs, gold, foreign currencies, new-generation tobacco products, counterfeit and substandard goods, particularly food, pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements.
Greater attention should also be paid to business activities conducted through e-commerce platforms and social media.
The Department of Industry and Trade was asked to closely monitor market developments, advise the Provincial People’s Committee on appropriate measures, develop specialised inspection campaigns and provide training to improve the capacity of enforcement agencies.
Relevant departments, law-enforcement forces and local authorities were also urged to accelerate digital transformation, develop databases for tracing product origins, improve information sharing and strengthen the handling of reports on violations.
Hiền stressed that authorities must prevent any collusion, protection or cover-up of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit-goods activities.
The Provincial Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee and the Rrovincial Radio and Television and Newspaper were requested to step up public communications on relevant laws, common violations and methods used by offenders, helping raise public awareness and encourage community participation in combating these activities.
At the conference, Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền presented certificates of merit from the Head of the National Steering Committee 389 to four collectives and six individuals for their outstanding achievements in combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in 2025.
