Quảng Ngãi - Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyễn Việt Hùng on July 17 led a delegation to inspect the construction progress of the Quảng Ngãi – Hoài Nhơn section of the North–South Expressway (Eastern route), part of the 2021–2025 development phase.

Accompanying him were Vice Chairman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People's Committee, Nguyễn Ngọc Sâm, and representatives from relevant departments and localities.

The expressway spans over 88km, with more than 60km running through Quảng Ngãi Province.

The project, managed by Project Management Unit 2 under the Ministry of Construction, has a total investment of over VNĐ 20 trillion.

Construction began on January 1, 2023, with completion targeted for December 2025 and route connection by September 30, 2025.

At the site, representatives from contractors and investors, including Đèo Cả Group CEO Ngọ Trường Nam, reported that the project is progressing well, with 50 construction fronts, over 1,100 machines, and more than 3,100 workers, engineers, and experts involved.

Key milestones include 98 per cent completion of roadbed filling, 90 per cent of traffic safety structures in place, beams installed on 76 out of 77 bridges, and major progress on tunnels.

However, construction is facing obstacles at nine locations where local residents have halted work, citing house cracks caused by construction vibrations and blasting.

As assessments are ongoing, compensation procedures cannot begin yet. Investors have committed to full inspection and compensation upon project completion, in line with regulations.

Deputy Minister Hùng gave clear instructions to resolve these issues and emphasized the urgency of accelerating progress given the limited time and unpredictable weather.

He urged PMU 2 to develop a detailed schedule and deploy targeted solutions, and called on contractors to reinforce resources and coordinate closely with local authorities.

He also requested Quảng Ngãi authorities to support the investor in public communication and ensure transparent and timely compensation to affected households.
