National Innovation Day 2025: Driving Force for Development

On October 1, the Ministry of Science and Technology, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, organized the Celebration of National Innovation Day 2025, which was streamed online to 34 provinces, universities, and research institutes. General Secretary Tô Lâm, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, leaders of ministries, localities, businesses, and international organizations attended the event.

With the theme “Innovation for all People – Driving Force for National Development”, the event reaffirmed the Party and State’s determination to promote science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of productivity, competitiveness, and sustainable growth. It also aimed to inspire creativity, particularly among young people and private enterprises, in research, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship.

Reportedly, in 2025, Việt Nam ranks 55th in the global startup ecosystem, with Hà Nội, Hồ Chí Minh City, and Đà Nẵng listed among the world’s Top 1000 innovation hubs. The country holds 44th place in the Global Innovation Index, 2nd among lower-middle-income economies, and continues to lead globally in “Creative Goods Exports.” Việt Nam is also one of the few countries applying a Provincial Innovation Index (PII).

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary Tô Lâm emphasized that National Innovation Day is both an occasion to honor achievements and a call for all sectors and citizens to actively engage in creativity, building new momentum for national development.

At the event, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the PII 2025, with Hà Nội, Hồ Chí Minh City, Quảng Ninh, Hải Phòng, and Huế in the Top 5. Quảng Ngãi ranked 20th among 34 provinces and cities.
