Quảng Ngãi responds to nationwide environmental protection campaign

QUẢNG NGÃI — Chairman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee has issued Official Dispatch No. 5817/UBND-NNMT to implement the emulation movement titled “Joining hands to protect the environment for a green, clean and beautiful Việt Nam”.

Under the directive, heads of provincial departments, agencies and sectors, as well as chairpersons of communal and ward-level People’s Committees and special administrative units, are required to effectively implement Plan No. 62/KH-UBND issued on February 26, 2026.

The plan aims to realise the Government’s Resolution No. 394/NQ-CP on mobilising public participation in environmental protection, waste reduction, waste classification, collection and treatment for a greener, cleaner and more beautiful Việt Nam.

Authorities at all levels have been instructed to widely disseminate the campaign’s objectives among officials, civil servants, public employees, workers, armed forces personnel, members of mass organisations and local residents.

Environmental protection is to be integrated into annual work programmes and identified as a long-term and regular task associated with sustainable development, new-style rural development, civilised urban areas and the building of green, clean and beautiful communities and workplaces.

Localities and agencies are encouraged to mobilise funding from relevant programmes, projects and other lawful sources to support implementation activities.

The province will focus on practical and effective measures tailored to local conditions, with priority given to household waste classification at source, reducing waste generation, particularly plastic waste and single-use plastic products, and strengthening waste collection, transportation and treatment.

The directive also calls for preventing the emergence of illegal waste dumping sites and addressing prolonged environmental pollution hotspots.

Regular environmental sanitation campaigns will be organised to clean roads, residential areas, public spaces, rivers, lakes, canals, beaches and other areas vulnerable to pollution.

In addition, local authorities are urged to promote tree planting, maintenance and protection while enhancing green landscapes and environmental quality.

The province will continue to build, maintain and expand effective environmental protection models while encouraging community-based self-management in monitoring and reporting violations of environmental laws.

Departments, agencies and local administrations are required to periodically review implementation results, promptly recognise and reward outstanding organisations and individuals, and replicate effective models, initiatives and best practices to enhance community participation.

The provincial chapter of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front and socio-political organisations have been requested to develop implementation plans suited to local conditions and mobilise their members and the public to actively participate in environmental protection activities.

The organisations are also encouraged to maintain and expand community-based initiatives such as “Green, Clean and Beautiful Residential Areas”, “Green Sunday”, “Trash-Free Rivers”, “Flower Roads” and the “Five No’s, Three Cleans” family model.

At the same time, they are expected to strengthen supervision and social criticism regarding the implementation of environmental protection policies and laws, while continuing to honour exemplary organisations and individuals for their contributions to the movement.

The campaign is expected to promote broader public awareness and participation in environmental protection efforts, contributing to sustainable development and improving the quality of life across the province.
